The Person Behind It

After years of experience in child development, herb sciences, as well as natural healing, Ms. Kelly Chobotiuk founded Herbs for Hurts for aromatherapy healing for children. Beginning in 1997, she recognized a strong desire for natural, gentle health products for babies and children, and made her very first product the herbal Bear.

The Idea Behind It

She first began selling herbs from her garden in a local farmers market. This small business started growing when she started talking about the benefits of using herb aromatherapy and other natural healing products to parents. It quickly become obvious to her then that there was a huge need for products that are simple and safe to use. That was when the herbal Bear warm/cool pack was born.

The Healing Concept Comes To Fruition

The first BooBoo Bear™ actually looked different then the one offered today. The founder’s mother, Mary-Lou, made the design you see today. From then on, numerous products have been created and added, such as the BooBoo Bunny™, Angel for Aches™, Snakes for Aches™, Lavender Love Pillows™, Massage Butters, and children’s Room Sprays. There are still ongoing plans to create more products that offer healing for our babies and children.

It is very important to the founder and the company to share the information on how to use both the herb aromatherapy and pure essential oils. Educational literature is also provided in each BooBoo Bear and Friends package on how to use the herbs for healing.

Even moms are connected to their effort to spread the benefits and education about healing herbs. A work creation project was started in Calgary (Alberta, Canada), hiring single moms to work out of their homes cutting, sewing, and stuffing the BooBoo Bear. The founder believes that women should have the chance to work in a flexible, supportive work environment while they raise their families without putting their infants and children in outside care. More plans for the future include a manufacturing facility with childcare on site.

The truly caring spirit of BooBoo Bears not only goes into the product itself, but into it’s method of manufacture as well.

Inspired by a mother’s belief that there are alternative ways to comfort and soothe children, each Boo Boo Bear is uniquely handcrafted with love and care to be cherished by children of all ages.

This beautiful story was written by the late Mary-Lou Chobotiuk, who passed away August 2003. Mary-Lou was the creator of the design of the Boo Boo Bear and its friends. Her support, creativity and motherly advice has brought them all to the success they have today.
